Yes — UtilioIn AI Website Assistant is released under the GPL v2 license. There are no premium locks and no usage caps. You only pay your AI provider for the calls you make, and self-hosted providers like Ollama are completely free.

For cloud providers such as OpenAI or OpenRouter — yes, you bring your own key (BYOK), stored encrypted at rest. If you run an OpenAI-compatible server locally, no key is required at all.

From your own indexed content. The plugin retrieves the most relevant chunks of your posts, pages and custom content, then the model answers strictly from that context and lists the sources it used — so it admits when it does not know instead of inventing an answer.

No. Indexing runs in the background as queued jobs with checkpointing, and the chat widget is a lightweight, dependency-light bundle. Page loads are never blocked, and if the AI provider is unreachable the plugin degrades gracefully to an extractive answer.
